Waimanalo Community Master Land Use Plan

CLIENT

About the Project

The Master Land Use Plan for the Waimanalo community is an exploratory document with the expressed goal of ‘keeping Waimanalo, Waimanalo’. It identifies the values, places and ideas that the community holds dear and want preserved, created, or improved. It is a resource to be used by the community to strengthen linkages and build community capacity for collective representation and action. It is also an educational resource for everyone with an interest in Waimanalo, including non-profit organizations, government agencies, elected officials, private interests, and visitors. The time horizon for the Strategic Community Plan is 20 years.

The vision, values and actions presented in the plan were developed through extensive community engagement, as well as research of current and prior plans, organizations, planning documents and studies, interviews with agencies and organizations, and review of planning documents and studies pertinent to Waimanalo.

The community consultation process involved a community leaders’ working group, community site visits and consultations, topic-based small group meetings and through community-wide meetings, a community review session and Kupuna outreach.
