About the Project

SSFM assisted the State of Hawaii Department of Public Safety to bring the Waiawa Correctional Facility into compliance with the Land Use Ordinance.

The process required researching and completing the necessary applications for the Special Use Permit (SUP) and Plan Review Use (PRU).

The applications included a 5-year master plan, SUP and PRU technical reports, neighborhood board presentations, consultations with elected officials/agencies/community members, traffic study, site survey/plan, plot plan, floor plans, reconnaissance level historic architectural survey, landscape plan, and groundwater hydrology assessment plan.

The SUP includes full survey scans, floor plans, and elevation views of each of the on-site buildings, necessary due for the preexisting facility and the absence of building permits and as-built documents. Other assessments included Hydrology, Traffic, and Wastewater capacity.
