About the Project
A comprehensive program, implementing traffic control devices within Honolulu to improve pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety, was preparation of two Complete Streets demonstration projects. Each incorporated narrow lane striping, reverse parking, sidewalk bulb-outs at crosswalks, rectangular rapid flashing beacons and shared lane markings.
SSFM was responsible for preparing construction contract documents for sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic circles, roundabouts, solar powered speed radar signs, flashing beacons, speed humps, speed tables and skid resistance surfacing.
The 5 stage project included:
Stage 1 – Schematic design for concepts and schematic plans;
Stage 2 – Preliminary design of sketches, drawings, outline specifications, and preparing cost estimates.
Stage 3 – Final design to prepare construction contract documents and cost estimates based on the approved preliminary drawings.
Stage 4 – Services during the bid process.
Stage 5 – Advisory and consulting services during construction.
