Honolulu International Airport Taxiway Z Structural Improvements

Honolulu, Hawaii

CLIENT

State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Airports Division

About the Project

Taxiway Z structural enhancements at the Honolulu International Airport are a key component of Hawaii’s island wide airport improvement program. The project addressed Taxiway Z’s need for greater structural integrity. The project required approximately 13 acres of asphalt and concrete. Pavement marking replacement ensures compliance with current Federal Aviation Administration operational and safety standards.

Structural engineering services included kickoff and design review meetings, assistance in evaluating the condition, location and protection of the drainage system and utilities, review of drawings for each submittal, assistance in preparing the FAA construction safety and phasing plan and the construction cost estimate. SSFM also gave assistance in the bidding and evaluation process and prepared the erosion and sediment control plans, specifications and cost estimates, and preparation of the individual NPDES permit application for storm water discharges during construction.
