About the Project

Typhoon Chaba struck the Island of Rota in August 2004, causing severe damage to Commonwealth Port Authority properties located in the West Harbor of Rota Island and the Harbor of Tinian Island. The destruction compounded damages caused by Ting Ting, a storm that hit the same area 3 years earlier. Ting Ting’s damages were only partially repaired at the time that typhoon Chaba struck.

Rota West Harbor Port, required inspection to establish damages caused by both typhoons in the areas of berth #1 and #2, including the travel areas in between used by heavy equipment to load and unload cargo from ships and barges.

Inspection of Tinian Harbor Port established damages caused by the typhoons. SSFM provided complete damage descriptions and the scope of work necessary to restore both facilities to their pre-disaster condition, including construction cost estimates for repairs. We also identified cost effective future hazard mitigation opportunities.
