Pali Highway Resurfacing and Lighting Replacement

Island of Oahu, Hawaii

CLIENT

State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Highways Division

About the Project

Resurfacing of almost 10 miles of Pali Highway, from Waokanaka Street to Kamehameha Highway entailed 17,426 lineal feet of concrete median barriers, upgrades of traffic signal systems, weigh-in-motion systems, communication conduits, and over 324 lighting standards. The project includes reconstruction of weakened pavement, cold planing and resurfacing of 5 miles of 2-lane highway utilizing asphalt and stone matrix asphalt.

A major landslide at the Pali Tunnels meant emergency response for slope scaling and debris clean up, erosion control fencing, rock fall impact netting and a tunnel structure extension. The rock fall tunnel included 3 drill shafts, post-tension retaining walls with rock anchor tie-backs, 20 precast concrete roof panels, precast concrete portal façade, erosion absorbing roof topping, shotcrete and CLSM backfill/erosion control, drainage improvements and civil roadway and safety improvements.
