About the Project

SSFM conducted an analysis of the opportunities and challenges for implementing a statewide managed retreat program in Hawaii. Services included assessing the current policy, legal, and financial landscape and creating a framework applied to two case studies: the North Shore of Oahu and a condominium in West Maui. The project provided the State with recommendations for amending or developing policies and funding sources to support managed retreat in response to sea level rise and coastal erosion.
