CLIENT

Republic of Palau c/o U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pacific Ocean Division

About the Project

SSFM investigated the collapse of the 2-lane, 3-span, 1,264 feet long bridge connecting the islands of Koror and Babeldaob over the Toggle Channel. The structure was a post-tensioned concrete balanced cantilever bridge with a mid-span hinge and a main center span of 790 feet. It was constructed in the mid-1970s

SSFM’s investigation included field investigations, interviews, and research of available information to preliminarily determine the causes of the bridge failure. The final report provided an action plan which outlined further tests, site investigations, and other actions to ascertain a conclusive cause of the bridge failure.
