About the Project

The Koolaupoko District Courthouse, one of many located in rural areas across the state, provides easier access to the Island’s windward residents. SSFM provided civil engineering services for construction documentation and administration and coordinated demolition phasing to allow time for residential units to be vacated.

The courthouse site is located on 2 hillside acres. The project involved demolition, removal, relocation or replacement of existing structures. Civil services included clearing and grubbing for the construction of two new houses, site grading, design of the driveway and layout of sidewalks, providing domestic and fire protection water service, domestic wastewater connections and preparation of an erosion control plan.

In the course of the project, a lawsuit was filed by a downstream resident regarding stream impacts to their property. SSFM provided documentation to assuage concerns, and the suit was resolved through mitigation.
