About the Project

Civil and structural engineering for the site development of a physical education and shower building at Konawaena Middle School addressed numerous issues associated with the project’s water management. The site has low water pressures due to its high elevation. SSFM developed fire supply and access options to address the deficiencies. The selected design boosts fire supply water for hydrants and also serves other campus buildings.

Water service for both domestic and fire protection was brought in from the municipal line. Wastewater was treated with onsite septic tanks and a leach field system. Low impact development techniques treat and reduce storm water runoff. The fire access and water supply improvements also benefit other areas of the campus. Structural engineering services included design of a new pre-cast bridge for fire access. The bridge design avoided working within the FEMA floodway, mitigating lengthy and complicated permits. The design included grading for the building.
