About the Project

The makai travel lane of this rural stretch of Hana Highway had been compromised by landslides in two locations due to the area’s frequent inclement weather. The purpose of the project was to install shotcrete walls supported by soil anchors to recreate the roadway shoulder and stabilize the travel lane. SSFM collaborated with the contractor and geotechnical engineer to incorporate design adjustments that would better suit the existing conditions, which were different from what was represented in the plans. Along with the above, the team successfully dealt with challenging traffic control requirements, weather issues that impacted construction and site conditions, and working with the COVID pandemic on this critical highway project.
