About the Project

The T. C. Ching Skilled Nursing Facility in the Sullivan Building on the St. Francis Healthcare System’s Health and Wellness Center Liliha campus serves Hawaii’s senior population. Creating the facility entailed the renovation of an existing skilled nursing facility occupying approximately 45,000 sq. ft. on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors and offering 119 beds.

SSFM was a part of the renovation team, providing structural and civil engineering. Structural included design of floor penetrations through concrete slabs for plumbing; structural support for grease fan and various exhaust fans and air handler unit support repairs at the roof; design of a bariatric lift support frame in the patient rooms; design of glazing supports and verification of the existing concrete floor framing to support new lightweight fill. Civil required preliminary review of site grading and layout of the accessible walkway from the parking lot.
