Kauai Schools – Heat Abatement
As part of a statewide program, led by SSFM, to address the excessive heat problems in public school classrooms, SSFM provided construction management for retrofitting Kauai schools. Sites include Kekaha Elementary School, Waimea Canyon Middle School and Waimea High School and Kapaa Elementary School and Kapaa High School. The project addressed the facility’s insufficient power infrastructure and the green objectives for the program. The solutions included a system of photovoltaic panels, storage batteries and passive cooling techniques to achieve a near zero net increase in electrical use.
