Chuuk International Airport

Rehabilitate Runway

Among the challenges of managing the rehabilitation of this 6000 foot long and 150 foot wide runway, taxiway and apron were the logistics of servicing its remote location. For example, aggregates were barged in from the Philippines, asphalt and concrete batching plants and other construction equipment from Guam, and the owners and are located on yet another island. Work included milling and overlay of asphalt pavement, replacement of hardstands on the apron, concrete lining on the drainage channel, pavement markings, runway lights and perimeter AOA fence repair.
