Beachwalk Wastewater Pump Station Improvements

An EPA Consent Decree mandated rehabilitation or replacement of various components of the Beachwalk Wastewater Pump Station. In addition to installation, replacement and rehab of equipment, fortification of foundations and roof replacement, the City added a number of upgrades to the 50-year-old pump station. The project included installing a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system which was also used as a feasibility test for other pump stations around the State. SSFM met the deadline and avoided onerous liquidated damages provisions.

More / Less

SSFM worked with the City electricians, mechanics and end users, the contractor and HECO to meet the Federal Consent Decree deadline while overcoming obstacles such as the lack of as-built drawings, long lead times for replacement equipment, experimental new SCADA system, numerous pump station shutdowns, scheduling delays with utility companies, and stringent testing requirements, all while keeping one of the highest capacity pump stations operational.
