HONOLULU OFFICE RECEIVES LEED GOLD CERTIFICATION

Until the late 1980s, the building that is now home to SSFM’s Honolulu headquarters was used for pineapple processing. With Dole Pineapple’s departure, the property underwent conversion, and SSFM’s future home became a self-storage facility. SSFM occupied the building in 2001. We transformed the warehouse into Class A office space, addressing the environmental, utilities, parking and host of other required development issues. We embarked on meeting the criteria for LEED certification as a part of our resolute commitment to sustainability.

We’re especially proud of the renewal of our LEED Gold Certification for our Honolulu office. The certification is affirmation of our commitment to sustainability and resilience as a cornerstone of our practice.

We practice what we preach by assuring that our work environment meets the highest standards of sustainability. Our staff worked diligently on the LEED renewal process and we recently learned of our LEED Gold recertification.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is a designation conferred by the U.S. Green Building Council. The Council was founded in 1993 to promote the vision that buildings and communities will regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life. Their evaluation criteria and certification program are the foundation for the design and management of heathy buildings.

SSFM has long embraced the tenets of USGBC. We have incorporated LEED design criteria into our projects, and have embraced the mandate to do the same for our workplaces and our people. Our Honolulu office leads our efforts and the recent recertification of our facilities demonstrates our commitment. Certification is based on compliance in five operational conformance categories including energy conservation, water quality, waste management, transportation access and the human experience.

Arriving at SSFM’s facilities.

SSFM has successfully implemented LEED in many projects, incorporating techniques for stormwater management, solid waste reduction, energy efficient design and the use of recycled and recovered materials. Meeting LEED standards is making a difference. SSFM’s commitment to the future health of our fragile island environments is an important factor in the way we conduct our business.
