Members from UH Manoa’s Chi Epsilon paid a visit to our Honolulu office for a learning session and pizza. The gathering was part of SSFM’s ongoing commitment to education and to strengthening our relationship with UH’s engineering program.
Sara Nakagaki and Dolores Herrera spoke to the students about the transition from intern/college student to a real job. Ryan Posiulai and Jake Passoff presented the pros and cons of obtaining a Masters Degree, Maile LaFave addressed the distinction between the construction and design sides of the profession and Corey Matsuoka offered insight into a career path in engineering.
Our presenters then joined Chad Kaiwikuamoohoihou, Wendy McLain, Sonya Koki and Scott Hayashi to meet with the students in small groups to enjoy the pizza, discuss what they had learned and address any questions. “It’s especially gratifying to interact with young, aspiring professionals,” said Corey. “It keeps us connected to the university and hopefully brings us some rising talents when they graduate.” Thanks to Nyah Lemay, our intern and Chi Epsilon member who helped coordinate the meeting.
Chi Epsilon is the Civil Engineering Honor Society, dedicated to promoting the status of civil engineering.
