Sinajana Agana Water Systems Modeling

The modeling and analysis of water system upgrades within the Sinajana and Agana Heights area of the Guam Water Authority’s service area involved computer modeling using MWH Innovyze software to analyze the existing water distribution system and determine the most suitable and cost effective ways to satisfy the EPA requirements for improved water supply and disinfectant contact time.

GWA was near completion of the Sinajana and Agana Heights Water Transmission Line Project, intended to collect raw water pumped from numerous deep wells and transmit it to chlorination treatment units in advance of the Agana Heights and Chaot reservoirs. From the treatment units, water enters the reservoirs to allow adequate chlorine contact time to ensure GWA customers have clean and safe water. GWA realized that as designed, the hard structures and water systems would not allow the raw water from the deep wells sufficient chlorine contact time to ensure the treated water could be distributed back into the system with adequate pressure and flow rate.

SSFM prepared a comprehensive engineering study and report that included an engineering cost estimate and conceptual implementation plan for alternative solutions. We also conducted water modeling training for GWA staff that will make them proficient with the current software.
