HELCO Kamaoa Switching Station
Structural engineering services to prepare the Kamaoa Switching Station for fiber communications included preparing drawings for the foundation and precast shelter, obtaining permits and overseeing construction.
HELCO needed to install new communications buildings at these switching stations. The shelters contain upgraded electrical and communications equipment to improve communications at these remote sites. Challenges included timely processing of the permits to meet an accelerated schedule.
The concrete pad was approximately 80 sq. ft., sited in a location to comply with Planning Department requirements for minimum setback from perimeter fencing and adjacent properties.
