Taal is among the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, which sits on the “Ring of Fire,” an area of elevated volcanic and seismic activity that circles the Pacific Ocean.
SSFM’s Donation Drive for Taal Volcano Disaster Relief
Julie McCarthy/NPR
As in the aftermath of Kilauea’s eruption, as an engineering practice, SSFM has the opportunity to provide our professional capabilities when natural disasters strike. But even when our processional disciplines aren’t called upon, we look for other ways we can help. With the recent eruption of the Taal Volcano in Batangas, Philippines, disaster management officials report that 44,376 families, or 171,140 people, have sought shelter in nearly 600 evacuation centers. With the mandatory evacuation within a 14km radius of the main crater of the volcano in effect, SSFM’s Manila staff conducted a donation drive to help the evacuees of Batangas. With generous donations, we were able to produce 100 bags of goods and medicines. These were all distributed to the evacuees in San Luis, Batangas with the help of the Local Government Unit. Big thanks to our Manila staff for going above and beyond to help their community.
