Hale Kula Elementary School
Campus Improvements
Hale Kula Elementary School is one of two schools serving the US Army’s Schofield Barracks and the surrounding community. This project was undertaken because time had begun to take a toll on the school’s 25 year-old facilities to the extent students, staff, and programs were being affected. The Hale Kula campus was transformed through substantial renovation of existing facilities and the addition of new classrooms, special education, library, office, and dining facilities.

The biggest challenges in this ambitious undertaking were scheduling and phasing—both to finish the project as quickly as possible and to minimize impact on the ongoing operation of the school.
SSFM provided structural and civil engineering services and played a key role in achieving an early completion. We did that by dedicating staff exclusively to the project and by employing a number of innovative ideas—including use of high performance coatings and materials that were readily available.
